Amherst Open Results

After playing the Amherst Open this week I can add another runner-up finish to Kevin Dugas to my resume. I shot rounds of 69-74 (+1) and lost to Dugas' 72-68 (-2). I played well both rounds but had a few unfortunate bounces that cost me too many strokes.

In round one I got off to a bad start with a double bogey on #10 followed by a 3-putt bogey on 13. But then I went on a birdie run and birdied five of the next seven holes to get it to 2 under. I made another bogey and another birdie coming in to finish with a two under 69 and a two shot lead heading into the final round.

In the final round I played well for most of the round but put myself on the wrong side on the hole to make any birdies. I birdied 1 and 6, and made bogies on 3, 5, 10, 11 and 15 to finish the day three over. On the back nine I had a few bad bounces that caused some bogies and every time I gave myself a look at birdie it was a downhill putt I couldn't be aggressive with them due to the very fast greens.

I am disappointed I did not come out with a win this week but I still have one event left to get my first win of the year. My next event is the Parsboro Open on September 15-16 which I finished 2nd in last year to Mr. Dugas.

Island Open Results

Over the weekend I played in the Island Open at Belvedere Golf Club in Charlottetown, PEI.
My weekend got off to a great start as I shot 64 (-8) during the pro-am on Friday. I played a great round of golf and had it to 9 under par with 4 holes to play and managed to par a short par-5 and bogey a par-3 coming in and missed the course record by one shot. I won the pro-am and won a rang on the day so my weekend expenses were covered before the tournament even started.

The official tournament was Saturday and Sunday and I didn't bring my 'A' game like I did Friday. I shot rounds of 73-74 (+3) and finished 6th in the pro division. I was not happy with my performance around the greens on the weekend and I probably putted the worst I have all year. It's tough to win golf tournaments when you don't get it done around the greens.

My next tournament in the Amherst Open August 23-24.

Lawtons Pro-am

I played in the Lawtons Pro-am on August 8th at Glen Arbour Golf Course and it was hands down the best pro-am event I have ever played in. Well done Lawtons!

The field consisted of 36 teams that included four amateurs and one pro per team. It was a scramble format which allowed teams to use the pro's drive, but if you did, the pro had to step aside and was not allowed to play the next shot. I was fortunate to play on a very good team with a group of great guys and we shot 17 under par and finished 2nd place.

I look forward to returning to this event next year!

Lobster Carnival Results

On July 21-22 I played in the Summerside Lobster Carnival Tournament in Summerside, PEI.
I had a good tournament but was unable to capture the victory as I was edged by Nova Scotia Amateur Champion and fellow Touring Professional Jeff Bishop.

I shot rounds of 71-71 (-2) and lost by one shot to Jeff. I played well over the two days but wasn't able to convert the birdies I needed on the back nine to get the job done.
