Maine Open Results

I recently returned home from the 2012 Charlie’s Maine Open in Augusta, Maine. This was my first time playing the event and I look forward to going back in the years to come. The course proved to be a great challenge and not very often you get to play courses with “US Open like conditions” (long rough and fast greens). I did not have a good tournament but I didn't have high expectations as this was my first tournament in almost 10 months and I haven't played much golf in the past month. Below are some brief details from each round.

Round 1: 75 (+5)

I played very well for 16 holes but my round was derailed by back-to-back triple bogeys at number 9 and 10 (took a few to many shots to get on the green and a few to many putts). I got off to a great start and I was 2 under par through the first 8 holes which I was very happy with after a long layoff. I finished the round with my head up and looking to play all 18 holes in round 2.

Round 2: 78: (+8)

I got off to a good start in the second round again and was 1 under through 5 holes and then stumbled and fell into a large crater. I played the next 5 holes 8 over par. I missed a couple fairways and greens and put myself on the wrong side of the hole, which made it very tough to save pars. I managed to get things back on track but just couldn’t catch a break and make any putts. I was very pleased with my ball striking through both rounds but I was a bit to rusty around the greens and it cost me several shots over the 36 hole tournament. My lovely wife keeps reminding me to focus on the positives and I have quite a bit to build on for my next event.

What’s Next:
My next tournament is the RBC Canadian Open Pre-Qualifier at Club de golf de l'Epiphanie in l'Epiphanie, Quebec on July 3. The winner of the pre-qualifier will get an exemption into the RBC Canadian Open and the top 15% of the field will advance to the Monday qualifier on July 23. The top 4 from the Monday qualifier will advance to the Canadian Open.
